Domestic Stained Glass Projects

We have worked on various stained glass designs and each was created with passion, dedication, and creativity.

a stained glass window with a bird on it

Heybridge, Essex

This window was designed specifically to fit a new aperture that was located up a stairwell. The client requested to bring the outdoors indoors, so the designer included a border of wisteria to reflect the real one that trailed the wall outside. Additionally, The client kept Koi Carp, and so this was represented in the pond. The window measured 1 x 3m, and 10mm thick polycarbonate protected it.

a stained glass window with an eccentric geometric pattern

Islington, London

A client with eccentric taste provided us with a unique design for their front-facing sash window. They provided us with a computer-generated design, which we modified to ensure it could be made with glass. We picked out different types of glass based on their textures and ability to let light in. We used some ordinary domestic glass from 1950, which makes it difficult to see through but enhances the amount of light coming in.

a rectangular stained glass window

Little Sampford, Essex

A new room and bedroom were added to an old country cottage. Two windows were created to prevent people from seeing a nearby brick wall and a neighbour's garden. The client wanted the windows to have the feel of Mondrian paintings and to incorporate the rose motif pargetting on the external walls. The windows were made with different types of textured and handmade glass to create an exciting surface that would make it difficult for people to see through. The windows had to be double glazed to comply with current building regulations.

St.Mary Church Wendens Ambo, near Saffron Walden.

This single light window was designed to celebrate the life of a well-loved vicar of the church of St.Mary, Wendens Ambo, near Saffron Walden.  He was also a teacher at local schools and also of Duke of Edinburgh students.

The ' guiding star' of the Compass Rose captures his style of teaching; that it was gentle and encouraging, rather than dictatorial. His widow provided the main theme of the design of "teaching/leading through wisdom and love".

The climbing rose takes in the 5 wounds of Christ: the Dove is for peace: the Robin for Tim's love of birds and all nature: the backdrop represents the many family holidays spent in outdoor pursuits, such as sailing in the Lake District.  The design is dominated by The Cross, showing the Christian faith that was the core of Tim's life; over and through which, his life and teachings were woven.

The video shows the window being installed in record time.  One of our fastest by far!!!

Lowestoft Town Hall

This set of 3 stunning windows, made in 1855, to celebrate the friendly union between France and Great Britain, was removed to allow them to be repaired and releaded and for protective glazing to be installed. The large West window is entitled ‘Hail Happy Union’.  As Dr.Jasmine Allen (curator of The Stained Glass Museum in Ely Cathedral) wrote in her historical report:-

The first Exposition Universelle of 1855, held in Paris, marked the dawn of Napoléon III’s reign as Emperor and became a crucial stage for the performing of French nationalism to an international audience. The Exposition was the centre of expressions of a diplomatic alliance between Britain and France, allies (with Turkey and Sardinia) in the on-going Crimean Campaign against Russia between 1853 and 1856. One of the 1855 stained glass exhibits, a window designed by architect-sculptor John Thomas and exhibited by Ballantine & Allan, celebrated the political alliance and friendly rivalry between Britain and France. The window also revealed the aims and ambitions of its patron, Sir Samuel Morton Peto.
